While you are officiating, you are representing yourself and the association as a professional. As such, it is important that you have the correct gear! Below is a breakdown of what is needed, and a few suggestions on where to purchase those items. Shirt: Lacrosse officials wear 1″ black and white stripes, just like basketball and some football.

To start out, a basic short sleeve version with a collar and a pocket is recommended. Long sleeve, tank top, or jacket versions can be purchased as well, but are less versatile. If it is cold and all you have is a short sleeve, you can wear a black long sleeve under it. Shirts can be found at the following links:

Shoes and Accessories: All other uniform items should be solid black with no visible logos. White logos can be blacked out using permanent marker. Black shorts, pants, or kilts are to be worn for all games, and should be well-kept. Shoes may have a small amount of white, i.e. the soles. These items are all up to your personal preference.

FHSAA Logo: During FHSAA sanctioned games, officials are required to have the FHSAA logo on your shirt. You can find a uniform shirt with the FHSAA logo printed on it here, however, you cannot wear this shirt at any other, non-FHSAA tournaments and events. You may be able to get an old FHSAA patch from association leadership, which you can apply to your shirt for FHSAA games using Velcro, magnets, pins, etc., however, FHSAA no longer distributes these patches.

Whistle: The whistle should be a Fox 40 Classic, which can easily be purchased from Amazon, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or many other retailers.

Cards: The cards should be about the size of playing cards, one each of yellow, green, and red. These are similarly easy to find anywhere.

Flag: The flag just needs to be a basic yellow flag. We do not throw our flags, so the ball in the end is not necessary, but you may use this style if you prefer.

Notes: You will need a way to take notes (such as when you give a yellow card, how many time outs have been taken, or who has alternate possession). You can do this on an official game card, tape on the back of your penalty cards, or any other method that works for you. Don’t forget a pen or pencil!
